Peering policy type
Peering philosophy
AfriQ pursues an open and mutually beneficial approach to peering, based on fairness, reciprocity and shared value. We welcome interconnection that improves performance and resilience for both networks and the wider community.
Peering criteria
We consider peering requests against the following:
- Geographic proximity to reduce latency
- Balanced traffic exchange that benefits both parties
- Demonstrated network stability and reliability
- Compatible network architectures supporting common routing protocols
- Adequate capacity planning for current and future demand
Technical requirements
To maintain a secure, reliable interconnection, peers are expected to observe practices aligned with MANRS (Mutually Agreed Norms for Routing Security):
- Prefix filtering at network borders to prevent incorrect routing
- Anti-spoofing mechanisms aligned with MANRS principles
- Traffic source validation and IP address authentication
- Route filtering and prefix validation processes
- Support for common routing protocols
Peering points
Our presence and interconnection points are listed on PeeringDB: peeringdb.com/asn/328475.
Maintenance & operations
We maintain healthy interconnections through traffic monitoring, regular communication between technical teams, and collaborative capacity upgrades as our networks grow.
Request peering
To request peering, contact our team at peering@afriqnetworks.co.ke with your ASN, PeeringDB record and preferred interconnection points.
